- Biography
- Ben Collis, the son of Russian immigrants, was born in 1911. He grew up in Oshawa, Ontario. In 1944, he moved to Peterborough, Ontario. Ben's interest in music led him to form his own dance band and play gigs throughout Ontario.

- Maurice "Moishe" Berg (1913-1993) was a Toronto businessman who devoted much of his life to Jewish communal work and particularly to Zionist work. He was born on July 29th, 1913 in Russia to Rachel and Jacob Hochberg. He came to Canada in 1920, with his mother, two brothers, and one sister.
- Berg was educated in Toronto and became president of Maple Leaf Press, a printing and office furniture company that was founded in 1945. He was also an active member and leader of Canadian Young Judaea and past president of Ajalon Lodge. He became president of the Central Region of Young Judaea, and later, national president. He was also chairman of the Regional Young Judaea Committee and chairman of the Biluim Committee. Berg was instrumental in starting up Camp Shalom. He also served on the Board of Directors of the YM & YWHA and was active with many other Jewish groups and organizations. He was affliliated with Adath Sholom Congregation. Maurice Berg died on February 27th, 1993.

- The fonds consists of records related to the personal and professional life of Maurice Berg and his involvement with various Zionist organizations. These organizations include Ajalon Lodge and Canadian Young Judaea. The records include scrapbooks, correspondence, photographs, certificates, programmes, ephemera, clippings, bulletins, and an award certificate.

- This accession consists of 2 Tallisot previously owned by the Machzikei B'nai Israel Synaogogue, formerly located at 279 Dovercourt Rd. at Dundas St. West. Each tallis bears a stamp from the synagogue.
- Custodial History
- The tallisot were used by Ann's [father-in-law?], Nathan Sharpe, who was a founding member of the synagogue.
- Administrative History
- The Machzikei B'nai Israel Synagogue was first located in a store on Ossington Avenue in the early 1930s. In 1933 they purchased and incorporated a cemetery located on McCowan Road at Eglinton Avenue. In 1935, the congregation moved into the basement of 279 Dovercourt Road and gradually renovated the rest of the building to completion by 1950. In the 1970s, the synaoguge had 93 member families, but dwindling membership in the 1980s forced the Synagogue to close and merge with Shaarei Shomayim.

- Accession consists of textual records and photographs that document the military career and education of Anne Pritzker (née Baker). Included are photographs of Anne in her military uniform and with her husband on special family occasssions, news clippings of Anne's physiotherapy graduating class, military certificates, and certificates of registration with the Ontario government for practicing physiotherapy.

- Anne Pritzker (1916-2010) graduated from the University of Toronto's physiotherapy program in 1936. She enlisted with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps during the Second World War and served as lieutenant physiotherapy aide in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. After the war, Anne initially worked at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. In 1960 she began working at Baycrest as assistant supervisor of physiotherapy, a role she held for twenty-two years. In October 1961 she married Louis Pritzker. The Anne E. and Louis Pritzker Wellness Library, located on the main floor of Baycrest Hospital, was named in their honour. Anne passed away at age 93 on September 20, 2010.

- Accession consists of records created and accumulated by author Anne Dublin while she was conducting research on the athlete Bobbie Rosenfeld for her book, Bobbie Rosenfeld: the Olympian Who Could do Everything. Included are audio recordings of interviews she conducted with Judy Ghert (a relative of Bobbie's) and Bruce Beacock (archivist at the Simcoe County Archives), some research notes and newspaper clippings on Rosenfeld and the winners of the Bobbie Rosenfeld award, and slides created by Anne for a presentation related to her book. Of note is an image of Anne Dublin sitting next to a plaque dedicated to Bobbie Rosenfeld in Barrie as well as contemporary photos of the home where Rosenfeld lived in Toronto (496 Markham Street) and historical plaques dedicated to her the Toronto Historical Board (1996) and the City of Toronto, Department of Parks and Recreation. Finally, accession also includes a CD with audio recordings of Anne's book launch, and interviews that were likely conducted with Rosenfeld on radio or television programs throughout her life.

- Accession consists of a group photograph of the members of the Independent Women's Society, a membership list for the Borochov chapter of Na'amat, two Pioneer Women pins, and a grade 3 report card for Stanley Wilder from Shirley Street Public School. Identified in the photograph is Bella Wilder (bottom row, right); Rose Silver (middle row, first on left); Fanny Goldbach (middle row, second from left); Elsie Sautzman (middle row, seventh from left); Molly Guzy (back row, seventh from left).
- Administrative History
- Bella (nee Goldbach) Wilder (1910-2002) was born on May 12, 1910 in Opatow, Poland to Chaim Shlomo Goldbach and Shifra Frimeth Schatz Goldbach. Bella's older brothers, Victor, Jack and Hymie began immigrating to Toronto in the 1920s and had saved enough money by 1936 to bring Bella and her mother to Toronto. After arriving in Toronto, Bella found work sewing in a factory.
- Bella married Max Wilder (1909-1999) on September 29, 1939. Max worked at Superior Men's Tailoring where he sewed zippers into men's pants. They had two children together: Ann (born 5 April 1940, married Norman Sharpe) and Stan (born 21 Jan. 1945, died June 1974). Max passed away in 1999 and Bella passed away in 2002.
- Bella was a member of the Independent Women's Society, which was a group of Polish women who were wives of members of the Farband. They eventually became the Borochov chapter of the Pioneer Women, later Na'amat.

- Anne Baker Pritzker (1916–2010) graduated from the University of Toronto's physiotherapy program in 1936. She enlisted with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corp. during the Second World War and served as lieutenant physiotherapy aide in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. After the war, Anne initially worked at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. In 1960, she began working at Baycrest as assistant supervisor of physiotherapy, a role she held for twenty-two years. In October 1961, she married Louis Pritzker. She passed away at age ninety-three on 20 September 2010.

- Ajalon Lodge was originally established in 1927 as a Young Judaea Club. In September 1935, it officially became a lodge of the Zionist Order Habonim. The lodge was very involved in raising money for Israel (mostly through the UJA), promoting Zionism, and recruiting new members for the Zionist Organization of Canada. Many members fought in the Second World War. The wives of some of the members formed the Ajalon Ladies Auxiliary in 1944. Maurice Berg became a member of Ajalon Lodge in January 1933.

- Item is an Ajalon Lodge award given to Maurice Berg in 1954. The award consists of a silver cup with two handles mounted on a black plastic stand. A gold plaque is mounted on the stand with a description of the award which reads: "Ajalon Award 25th Anniversary 1954 Maurice Berg."

- Accession consists of four photographs of Morris "Murray" Rose. Three of the four photographs show Murray atop horse. In addition to M. Rose, Mrs. J Chesney (owner) and J. Chesny (trainer) are also identified in the 1929 photograph.
- Custodial History
- The photographs were donated by Roz Tobias, the daughter-in-law of Morris Rose (the subject of the photographs).
- Administrative History
- Morris "Murray" Rose was born in Poland and came to Toronto as a child. His love of riding dates back to this time: at the age of ten, he would ride his grandfather's horse up and down the lanes of Kensington. Rose never completed secondary school; instead, he ran away from home at the age of fourteen and became a stable boy at the Woodbine Racetrack. Subsequently, he became a jockey. The high point of his career came on 23 May 1931, when, at the Churchill Downs Racetrack in Kentucky, he ran five winners in a six-card race. Rose retired from riding horses after sustaining a serious head injury during a race.
- After retiring from racing, Rose worked at a textile store on College Street. Later, he opened his own store on the south side of College Street at Spadina Avenue. He and his wife ran the store for many years with one or two employees. Rose eventually purchased the building in which his store was located and rented out space to a variety of businesses, including a smoke and confectionary store, a ticket agency, and an eyeglass store.
- Rose's entrepreneurial activity extended to purchasing bankrupt businesses and building apartment buildings with a group of friends. In the 1960s, he was a co-partner in Triangle Billiards at Bathurst Sreet and Sheppard Avenue. He also purchased a fifty-acre farm in Buttonville on Woodbine Avenue, which he rented out until his death.
- Rose died in July 1989 at the age of seventy-eight. He left behind a wife, Mary; two sons, Bobby and Ken; two daughters, Marjorie Swartz and Elaine Rubinoff; two sisters, Lil and Rae; a brother, Sam; fourteen grand children; and one great-grandchild.
