- The cultural and education wing of the northern branch of the YM-YWHA was supposed to be built as part of the original northern branch, opened in 1961. However, lack of funds caused the wing to be put on hold until the 1970 completion program began. The addition of the cultural and educational wing of the northern branch included the Koffler Centre for the Arts, the Leah Posluns Theatre and improved physical education facilities.

- File consists of legal documents pertaining to the sale of the property comprising lots 6-9 on the east side of Spadina: Plan D-254, also known as 651 Spadina, from the Central Council of the Girls' Friendly Society to the Toronto Zionist Council. There is a 1928 declaration of Arthur Carlson McMaster stating his claim to the property through his parents, and including a history of the property since 1883.
- Further declarations by Thrza Deverall and Mary Sparling, both of the Girls' Friendly Society, continue the history from the McMasters to the 1942 sale to the Zionist Council. A 1942 letters patent document reincorporates the Toronto Zionist Council as a corporation that can hold real estate etc.
- Correspondence between John Glass for the Zionists and lawyers for the sellers concern bank loans, insurance, and regulations for applications for building permits for renovations of the facility.

- File consists of documents pertaining to the sale of the property comprising lots 6-9 on the east side of Spadina Avenue, Plan D-254, also known as 651 Spadina and Townsend House.
- There is a handwritten document that includes a plan of the property and a chronological chain of ownership by way of mortgages and deeds from 1895-1929, through the McMaster family to the Central Council of the Girls Friendly Society in Canada. As well, there are legal documents such as offers to purchase, correspondence with lawyers and insurance companies' financial statements, mortgage matters, and an affadavit of incorporation of the Toronto Zionist Council in 1907. Due to the complexity of the sale, the Zionist Council applied for and was granted letters patent by the assistant provincial secretary in order to enlarge and clarify the organization's corporate powers.

- Sub-series consists of material relating to the construction of Adas Israel synagogue's new building at 125 Cline Ave. South. This includes publicity brochures and financial records about the building campaign and correspondence, programmes, and a film of the turning of the sod. As well there is correspondence, programmes, photographs and audio recordings of the laying of the cornerstone and dedication of the synagogue. There is also a key to the synagogue which was presented at the dedication ceremony.

- The Zionist Centre's new building, home for the Toronto Zionist Council, was located at 788 Marlee Avenue.
- The Toronto Zionist Council, the Toronto branch for the Zionist Organization of Canada, was founded in 1907.Their mandate was to promote the ideals of Z.O.C in Toronto, which necessitated the responsibility of heading up and organizing local programmes for the Toronto Jewish community.
- This organization played a prominent role within the community, renting space to several Jewish organizations including: Ajalon Lodge, Camp Shalom, Canadian Zionist Federation, Hadassah Wizo, Herzl Zion Organization, Israel Medical Association, Jewish Agency, Jewish National Fund, Keltzer Sick Benefit Society, Keren Hatarbut, Linitzer Society, Sons of Abraham, Mozirer Society, Toronto Independent Benevolent Society, United Israel Appeal, Yavne Zion Congregation, Young Judaea, Youth & Hechalutz Zion Benevolent Society. The building also housed the Zionist Organization of Canada's national headquarters.
- Many of these organizations were affiliated with the Toronto Zionist Council. Due to the volume of Zionist organizations operating out of the Zionist Centre, the building came to be regarded as the official centre for all Zionist activities in Toronto.
- Plans for the new Zionist Centre of T.Z.C. were conceived in 1962 after the earlier building on Spadina Ave. was sold to the St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Institute.
- Ground was broken on November 1, 1962 and a drawing of the building was put on display at the Diamond Jubilee Convention of the Zionist Organization of Canada held in Toronto.
- The groundbreaking ceremony was held on Sunday December 23, 1962 at 11:00 am. The ceremony was officiated by members of the Toronto Zionist Council's building committee, which was comprised of: Louis L. Lockshin, Stephen E. Berger, John R. Devor, Controller Philip G. Givens, and Julius Hayman. Phil Givens--president--and Louis L. Lockshin--chairman of the building committee--conducted the ceremony.
- Also present were Eliezer N. Dembitz, Consul of Israel; Joseph N. Frank, National President of the Zionist Organization of Canada; and Julius Hayman, President of the Central Division of Z.O.C.

- David Dunkelman (1883-1978) was born in Poland to Elias and Leah Dunkelman. He came to Canada with his parents in 1895, settling in Toronto. On 19 January 1910, he married Rose Miller (1889-1949), and together they had 6 children: Joseph, Ernest, Benjamin, Theodora, Veronica (Ourisman), and Zelda (Wilner). David Dunkelman was very active throughout his life in Zionist causes and in philanthropic and communal work. He was the founder, president and chairman of the board of Tip Top Tailors Ltd. (1911) which was one of the largest clothing manufacturers in Canada. For over 50 years David was one of the leaders of the Zionist Organization of Canada. He was also director of the Jewish Home for the Aged and Baycrest Hospital, one of the founders of the North Toronto YMHA, a founder and supporter of the Associated Hebrew Schools of Toronto, and one of the founders of a village in Israel known as Gan Chaim. He was a member of several clubs and lodges including B'nai Brith, the Empire Club, the Primrose Club and the Canadain Friends of Hebrew University. David married Pearl Greisman Rotenberg in 1950, after the death of his wife Rose Dunkelman in 1949.

- Biography
- Abraham Sprachman (1896–1971) was as Toronto-based architect who, in partnership with Harold Kaplan in the firm Kaplan & Sprachman, was well-known for the design of art deco and art moderne movie theatres during the 1930s and 1940s and for designing buildings for Jewish communities across Canada from the 1930s to 1960s.
- Abraham married his cousin Mina Sprachman in 1921. They had two children, Mandel and Sheila. Mandel followed in his father's footsteps and became a nationally-recognized and acclaimed architect. Both specialized in theatre design and renovations. Mandel became an architect best known for his restoration of the Elgin Wintergarden.

- Biography
- An award-winning columnist, staunch feminist, and tireless activist for social justice and progressive causes at home and abroad, Michele Landsberg was a well-known and prominent Torontonian during the mid-to-late twentieth century. According to a biography posted by the University of Windsor where Landsberg was a distinguished visitor in women's studies in October 2003, her "zest for wanting to change the world has its roots in her childhood: growing up as a Jewish girl in 1950s Toronto, where sexual stereotyping and objectification were rampant and overt antisemitism was acceptable." As a result, Ms. Landsberg tackled a wide-range of related issues, often grounding her columns in events, places, and issues of particular interest to Torontonians.
- Born on 12 July 1939, Ms. Landsberg attended Toronto public schools, spent time on a kibbutz in Israel, and graduated from the University of Toronto with honors in English language and literature in 1962. She was dissuaded from pursuing a master's degree by her male professors and instead became a reporter at the Globe and Mail newspaper and launched a remarkable career as a journalist and writer. In addition to freelance and full-time stints with the Globe and Mail (1962–1965; 1985–1988), Chatelaine magazine (1965–1971), and the Toronto Star (1978–1983; 1989–2003), Ms. Landsberg frequently appeared on television and radio and wrote three best-selling books. She garnered awards, including the first National Newspaper Award for column-writing, the YWCA Woman of Distinction Award, and the 2002 Governor-General's Award in Commemoration of the 1929 Persons Case, and received honourary degrees from several Canadian universities. She also served on the boards of many community organizations, such as CARAL (Canadian Abortion Rights League) and Opportunity for Advancement.
- After her retirement from the Toronto Star in 2003, Ms. Landsberg planned to pursue other writing projects and to spend more time at home in her garden and with her family: husband Stephen Lewis, three grown children, and two grandchildren. In September 2005, she was acclaimed as the new Chair of the Women's College Hospital Board when the Hospital ended its partnership with Sunnybrook Hospital.
