- Accession consists of the records of the B'nai Zion Association. Included are the pinkus, financial records, photographs, correspondence, meeting minutes, newsletters, membership records, inviations and programs. Also included is a 1918 photograph of a manual training class at either the King Edward School or the Manning Ave. School.
- Administrative History
- In the years following the 1st Zionist Congress held in Basle, Switzerland in 1897, Zionist organizations were established around the world.
- In Toronto one of the first Zionist societies to be founded was the B'nai Zion Association. This organization was established as a mutual benefit society in 1903. It provided sick, funeral and unemployment benefits to its members.
- However, its main purpose was the promotion of Zionism. It was involved in the dissemination of Zionist material, and sponsored lectures and meetings, in addition to raising funds to suppo~t the establishment of Jewish settlements in Palestine. It continued to perform these same activities following the establishment of the state of Israel.
- B'nai Zion has also been involved in local activities. It was active in anti-missionary efforts and also provided educational and cultural programming for children.

- The Bergen-Belsen Association of Toronto was established in 1963 in order to preserve the memories of the victims of persecution at the concentration camp of Bergen-Belsen. Moreover, they helped provide aide to the survivors and their families, offering financial, medical, and social assistance.

- Accession consists of a minute book outlining activities of the Associated Hebrew Charities. Included is a letter written to the charities by a woman named Mrs. Green of Coldwater, Ontario, requesting Passover relief support to purchase a set of hens. Also included is a summary of a visit to the 17th American Zionist Convention in Rochester, New York, 1914. The author of the summary is unknown, but is most likely Ida Lewis Siegel.
- Administrative History
- The Associated Hebrew Charities (AHC) was formed around January 1912, although it is possible that they were working informally before that time. The AHC consisted of eight socieites operating in Toronto, including the Jewish Free Loan and the Hebrew Ladies' Aid Socity. Each society maintained their separate identity and sent three representatives to sit on the Cooperative Relief Board of the AHC. Each society's president presided over the AHC meetings in turn. The AHC was tasked with dispensing charity and providing direct support to families in need as well as Jewish hospital patients, namely in the form of Passover relief. They operated out of 218 Simcoe Street.

The conference was held on June 12 to June 15, 1942. The photograph features some touch-ups and markings, as well as the name of the studio etched in white ink, presumably by the photographer. Prints of the photo were likely made from this proof. Pictured are:

- Jewish dairymen banded together to form the Toronto Hebrew Association of Butter Dealers for commercial protection and co-operative action; a counterpart by independent merchants to the trade union movement. These bottles contained a variety of dairy products (usually butter and sour cream) and were returnable for 5 cents.

- The Transnistria Survivors' Association was formed in 1994 so that the survivors from Romania and Transnistria could tell their stories of survival and to offer each other support. They planned events including Hannukah parties, speaking engagements and annual memorial services (Hazkarah). According to this group, their voices were left out of the survivors stories and have tried to rectify that by writing memoirs and speaking to various groups to tell their stories of survival. Past presidents include: Felicia (Steigman) Carmelly, Osias Nadel, Etti Ziegler, and Lou (Leizer) Hoffer. As of 2017, the current President is Joe Lienberg.

He then took his chartered accountancy exam though Queen's Univeristy. In 1952, he married Bertha Allen and had four children: Marlee (Petroff), Laruel (Sandler), Kelvin and Jordan. Marvin was introduced to the YMHA society through his friends. He was also a member of Beth Tikvah Synagogue. Marvin died on 5 Feb. 1995 at the age of 64.

- Administrative History
- The Lizzies were a collection of sports teams that played amateur baseball and basketball in Toronto starting in 1912 in the school yard of the Elizabeth Street School. This “Playground” was situated in Toronto’s first Jewish quarter, St. John’s Ward, or simply “The Ward”. Supervised by the Parks Department’s Playground and Recreation branch, these playgrounds were popular places for inner-city children. They hosted athletic teams that competed in intramural competitions. The Lizzies won more than 150 titles at the city, provincial, and national levels in baseball, basketball, football, and hockey.Bob Abate (1893-1981), coached the Lizzies’ teams for 26 years and in 1990, the Elizabethan Recreation Centre (at Grace Street and Bloor Street West) was renamed the Bob Abate Recreation Centre in his honour. The Lizzies Old Timers Association is run by Harvey Bronstine and Norm Cornack and they bring together the remaining members of the Lizzies annually at a dinner.

- The "Council '63" Branch of the Toronto Section of the National Council of Jewish Women of Canada (NCJWC) was formed in 1963. Currently consisting of 20 members, the group was initially spearheaded by Barbara Norwich (d. 2011), and they met regularly in homes in the Cedarvale area. The group primarily did volunteer work, although it later evolved into a study group and book club.

- Founded in 1994, the Transnistria Survivors’ Association works to provide a voice for and raise awareness of a lesser known group of Holocaust survivors. Transnistria was the Romanian authorities’ name for the former Ukrainian region located between the Rivers Dniester and Bug. It was placed under Romanian administration following the German and Romanian conquest of Ukraine in the summer of 1941. Prior to the Second World War, Romania was home to the third largest Jewish population in Europe; but beginning with the Citizenship Revision Laws of 1938, the Jews of Romania were deprived their citizenship rights and became the targets of repressive antisemitic policies and laws. Neighbours turned on neighbours. Thousands of Jews were murdered in pogroms, either by Romanian or German troops, Nazi Einsatzgruppen, or the local population. In 1941, the Jews who remained alive in the Provinces of Bucovina and Bessarabia were deported to camps and ghettos in Transnistria. Thousands were jammed into freight trains while others were marched by foot. Many died along the way. Between 1941 and 1944, it is estimated that German and Romanian authorities, along with Ukrainian collaborators, murdered or caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Romanian and Ukrainian Jews in Transnistria. Some of those who survived these tragic circumstances, especially from Bucovina and Bessarabia, and made a new home in Toronto gathered together to lend each other support and to tell their largely unknown story of oppression and survival. The Transnistria Survivor’s Association organized yearly Hazkarah (memorial) services and its dedicated members continue to share their extraordinary stories of survival through speaking engagements at schools, colleges and synagogues. The photographs include a panoramic of a Dress Manufacturers Guild banquet (194-) featuring Nat Laurie at the head table in front of the microphone. Also identified are Sam, Abe and Joseph Posluns. Other photographs include images of Emma Laurie with daughter Marilyn and Emma's much younger half-sister Annie Pion Steinberg, a portrait of Emma Steinberg (ca. 1934) and one of Nat and Emma around the time of their wedding (ca. 1937) as well as a group photo of Marilyn Laurie at Camp Arowhon (ca. 1949-1950). Also identified in this photograph is Ruthie Silver.

- Nathan (Nat) Laurie (ca. 1904-1958) was born around 1904 in Montreal, Quebec. He married Emma (nee Steinberg) (1914-1997) around 1937 after a brief courtship. Together they had one son, Frank and one daughter, Marilyn (m. Baker). Nat owned Nat Laurie Dresses at Spadina Avenue and Richmond Street in Toronto and was president of the Dress Manufacturers Guild. Notably, he was in charge of fabric allocations during the Second World War and provided a dress to the winner of the Miss Toronto pageant. In 1951, he opened the Zanzibar night club on Yonge Street as a live blues and jazz club. Nat died in 1958.
